What is real del monte?

Real del Monte, also known as Mineral del Monte, is a historic mining town located in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. It was founded in the 16th century and quickly became one of the most important silver mining centers in New Spain (Mexico).

The town is known for its well-preserved colonial architecture, including the iconic Parish of San Miguel Arcangel, which was built in the 17th century. Real del Monte is also famous for its English influence, as the town was home to a large population of Cornish miners who came to work in the mines in the 19th century.

One of the highlights of Real del Monte is the Panteón Inglés (English Cemetery), where many of the Cornish miners and their families are buried. The town is also known for its delicious pastes, a type of savory pastry that was introduced by the Cornish miners and has since become a local specialty.

Today, Real del Monte is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors with its rich history, picturesque streets, and beautiful surrounding countryside. It was declared a Pueblo Mágico (Magic Town) by the Mexican government in 2001, in recognition of its cultural and historical significance.
